Alright, let me try to see this in my head, correct my imagination... connect 1 1/4 inch return lines, run into low loss header, pump into boiler, outlet through 3/4, pump into 1 1/4?

: : It's a viessmann vitodens 100. Seems weird to have such a small inlet and outlet to me... 8 gpm is too much for 3/4, is it not? Would pumping 4 gpm be effective?

: ++ According to the Viessman Vitodens 100 resistance chart in their installation manual, the boiler requires a high-head pump like the UPS-26-64U just to get 7 gpm through the boiler while using a low-loss header or a buffer tank with no resistance to flow. Another pump is required to get the heat through the piping circuit from the low-loss header, primary-secondary setup, or buffer tank.
: See the sketch at:

: Fortunately for the folks that don't know this and would just use a simple series circuit piping setup, the boiler will modulate down to adjust to the circulator ability, to put out much less heat than expected at about 4 gpm or 40,000 btuh.

: So the bottom line is to know how much radiation will put heat out into your home for the boiler to supply.
