I'm more amazed that the antique heating technology is still being used, considering the fuel costs. It's great for high buildings and process steam; but not for house fuel savings.

While the boiler can be efficient, when installed in a system that has to heat up masses of metal with huge pipes with no zoning to 215F on every cycle, then sit there for hours as it cools down (the definition of inefficiency in the AFUE tests) the total costs fuel.

Marketing sells the idea to keep iron-casters in business, but eventually fuel costs will drive it to extinction.
