++ No, radiators are 100% efficient, 100% of the heat that goes into their surface in the steam comes out. It is the concept of one of the purposes of zoning you are missing - that you heat areas that need heat and reduce the heat where not needed to save fuel costs. Those huge pipes in the basement heating where people are not is a LARGE cost - that is what the 33% added for piping and pickup is about. 33% for no other purpose than to heat pipes instead of people is a LARGE waste.
