I've got a great price on a brand new boiler that's just too big by one section. MPO189. After looking through the parts list and looking at the knock-down photos, it appears the only difference is 6" depth of the side panels and top, one mid section, 6 inches on the tie rods, 2 push nipples, and 6" on the spanner bars.

I'm looking for someone to talk me out of this, but I'm starting to think I could just remove one section and instead of an MPO189 I'd have the correct sized MPO147. I know that removing a section of a cast iron boiler is not the way a professional would go about making money, but if a homeowner (with plumber-in-law support) could save $1000 is it that crazy?
