We're spending our first winter in our home that is heated with a single pipe steam system - it's our first experience with this kind of heating system.

We had the boiler serviced in the fall but now that it's cold, and the heat comes on a few times a day, we've noticed that the water level in the gauge falls pretty quickly and within a day or two it usually kicks off the boiler until we refill the water gauge. Is this normal or is there water leaking somewhere in our house?

It also has the coil for tank-less hot water. The hot water temperature cycles very obviously all year - if you're in the shower it will get quite cool and then heat up until it's really hot then cool off again. You have to be readjusting the temperature constantly. Is this normal?
