HP is right...
I'll give you my insight on my 1860s
single steam pipe system.
The water in the glass is filled to 4/5
high. With all air valves on it will drop
to about 1/2 in 1-2 weeks of 20 degree
weather. With one air vent off in the
room with our 6 puppies it drops to the
1/2 level in 1 week, but it is the warmest
room in the house.
Check your air vents. also possible you may
have a leak in the boiler letting steam go up
chimney. (Hope not).
A similar problem with the tankless domestic
supply. Finally gave into my wife's complaints
with an electric water heater. (no more
complaints).
