Boiler systems set up with the circulator(s) pumping into the boiler return with the expansion tank on the boiler or supply line are more or less subject to this problem, depending upon the system, and circulator wear. The Spirovent might have been added to prevent some of the problem. Unfortunately, the noises can persist until relocating components.
