Looking for ways to prevent cast iron sections from cracking on hot water boilers. Have several Smith Boilers on base that are experiencing thermal shock cracking about 24" from base. Have tried installing re-circ. loop from supply to return which runs contiously 1/2 hp. Have also tried differential control to shut boiler off if temp. is 20 degrees difference. I believe the boilers are over sized for there buildings any ideas on how protect boilers from cracking it's getting expensive to replace sections.
