Thank you very much HeatPro. I was able to cut the pipe near the 45 elbow. However i could not unscrew the cut pipe from the elbow. However the elbow budged. Should be easy to cap/plug. I purchased galvanized pipe plug at Lowes. Will it work with the existing pipe? Looks like old steel. Thanks again for your help.

: As it is a steam boiler, it should only have water up to about half the sight glass inside the boiler and none higher in the system. Leaving the power off with the boiler switch off, you can remove the pipe and cap it as you describe. If the gauge reads 3 psig without the boiler burner on, you should replace it so it reads zero.
