Just bought a house with an MGB2002 utica boiler. pressure release valve is letting an occasional drip of water out. Called the local boiler repair guy to have system/valve checked, and he says i should consider replacement because my unit is probably only 50% efficient due to old design and lack of an exhaust damper, and new units are 80-85%. 50% seemed really low. Couldn't find any info on my model online. Called Utica (ECR). serial # indicates my unit was built in 1989, and unfortunately they only have info back to MY2000 on their computers. His guess was that i had the "newer" design, and that unit was probably 75-80% efficient (apparently the efficiency rating system wasn't in place in 1989 anyway). Looking for any insight and/or specs/details on my unit so i can make a decision here. we are in the midst of a remodel and i'm not against an upgrade if necessary, but I do have other things to spend my money on if the gain is negligible.
