Hydronic Fireplace

Hello,

My husband is from Greece and his family has a single family home with an open wood-burning fireplace(which provides the sole source of home heating). Inside of this fireplace are 3-4 cast iron pipes which contain water. The house is a two-story home and there are 5-6 radiators which feed off of the heated water generated by the fireplace. I've been to this house in the wintertime, and every room is toasty warm. The system has been in place for over two decades without a problem. My question is how would I retrofit an open fireplace to serve as the boiler (secondary source of heat)?

Thanks,

Tara
