Emitter options

I am moving into a new (old) home in October. It has an older gas fired atmospheric boiler and a hot water tank that is past its useful life. The house has baseboards throughout. Since I will be getting estimates for a better boiler/hot water system, as well as installing ducts for central a/c, I was wondering if there was any difference in efficiency between installing h/w coils in the air handlers for the heat vs. leaving the baseboards. Not sure if a mod-con gets its full efficiency with either of these options. Also, if I keep the baseboard, is there any problem with replacing baseboard with decorative cast iron radiators in a few rooms? Do they play well together or does it throw the balance off?

Thank you.
