: the system then seems to feed new water in

: How does it do that? Is there an automatic water feeder? If so, that is one cause of the problem. Incorrect setting or a leaking solenoid feed valve can allow too much water in. Close the hand valve to the feeder and observe the result. Then tell us.

There is an automatic feeder. I should point out that the pressure is at about 3psi on the gauge. I haven't done any adjusting of the auto feed valve, but did move the pressure cutoff adjustments some. i know the outside gauge works off a screw in the top and that should be virtually down to the .5 on the pointer gauge. however i also moved the dial inside at one point, though i thought i put it back where it belogned. also the system has been seeming to rebalance itself automatically shutting off water flowing into radiators and then the furnace coming back on. it seems better now but the sight glass water hasn't receded.
