An autofill valve is the mistaken name for a PRV:

If you had no PRV, the fill pressure would be the pressure of the incoming feed water line. It is a good idea to have a PRV to prevent overpressuring a boiler; but the pressure can be regulated by watching the gauge and shutting off the cold water feed valve when the pressure is correct.
