Probably because he doesn't have a clue how to use a slant-tube or magnehelic pressure gas gauge, nor CO and oxygen meter to set the gas pressure and air mixture to factory specs. There is more likely gas remaining in the exhaust most probably due to the pressure regulator changing over time, which is a usual event and the reason that the factory recommends annual service including checking gas pressures incoming and outgoing in the gas lines and the exhaust.
'Cross-contamination of Plexvent' is a good language smoke-screen to impress people with polysyllabic phraseology that would require more language gymnastics to explain how that makes gas explode.
