Good, you have a 20 TD, showing the water flow is adequate; the question of the tank resistance is proved. The antifreeze mixture changes viscosity a bit as the temperature rises, so that might have something to do with a TD change as flow varies. The thermometer can vary some as the tank mixture content is affected. No clues here as to why the sound went away, other than the outlet valve changing pressure and flow in the boiler.

Is that 20TD with the gas valve on low or high input?
