Exactly how much make up water are you feeding into your steam system? It should be essentially a closed loop - what leaves the boiler as steam should come back as condensate. Not getting the condensate back will drive your fuel costs through the roof, along with corroding & scaling your boiler to death.

You can likely fix your steam system (and greatly reduce your heating costs) for a faction of the cost of what you're doing.

Think about getting a copy of "The Lost Art Of Steam Heating" by Dan Holohan. Your steam system will be in there, along with the usual problems, and what to do to make them go away.
