The same trick of piping the outlet of the water heater to the inlet of the pump between the boiler water and the pump that pumps into the water heater would work as well as it is used in making a radiation loop above the boiler (a less-useful, troublesome idea for the same reason as your water heater pump knocking.)

As the cooler water coming from the water heater mixes with the hot boiler water, less flow is pulled from the boiler, so the flashing and banging becomes less or disappears. A hand valve to regulate the flow has to be set so not too much is pulled from the return vs the boiler water.
