Wait, wait, wait. I do drain the water every year until it runs clear and then refill. I add water as needed. I do know what you are saying about it being just a mark on the glass, that did get me the first winter in the house, but no, now it's clean water.

: You are saying that the boiler goes to 5 psig right away and has to be reset to get the burner going, which means your pressure safety device is not functioning properly.

I had a serviceman in to flush it all out this year and really clean it out. He said everything was fine with the valves and the gauges and the pressure safety device (I'm assuming that's the box that's set at 1.5 psi?)

What makes you say it is the pressure safety device?

Also, your boiler is steaming very quickly, which can mean the fire has gotten significantly larger from regulator failure or wear.

Regulator failure - Do you mean a gas regulator or some other regulator?
