It would be a lot less expensive to use a small plate-type heat exchanger than an Amtrol; but if you already have the Amtrol, then it will act as a heat exchanger just fine. It is able to transfer about 70,000 btuh an hour, so it should be able to handle more than just tha one floor. You can do the heat loss free at:

and find out if that is enough to heat the whole house.

That is a funny approach. The IBR schools tried to change the lesson order to do the heat estimate last. It is really hard to answer a question with the answer after the installation plan. But it is more like a DIY approach - that is, keep installing stuff until you see it doesn't work, then go to plan B and figure it out.
