What was the "problem with the boiler", syptom wise? And when was the last time it was cleaned? With a flashlight look for signs of rusting yourself. Raise the water level to the top of the glass and look for drips or accumulated water inside the bottom of the boiler around the burners each 1/2 hr for a few. If you don't see any, I'd question the need for a boiler.
