If you don't have an automatic water feeder, your waterline will drop due to water lost out of air vents, valve packings, summer evaporation etc. You should usually have to check weekly and only have to add a little monthly, or fix the leakages. If your boiler heat exchanger is leaking itself, then it may be cracked or corroded through. Fresh water has oxygen and rusts boilers, don't allow any valves or vents to leak (once hot, vents should be shut tight)
