I'm told that oil is substantially more efficient for heating steam systems than natural gas
because size of flame needed to heat transfer element has to be large, and flame from oil spreads more efficiently

I'm looking to replace 50+year-old furnace before it gets into trouble
I have a one-pipe steam system feeding 8 radiators on two story 1800 sq.ft house
thats 73 years old.

Your recommendation and any suggestions would be highly appreciated - thanks....John
