Q. I'm trying to get an idea of temperature of the air/steam entering the boiler and temperatures exiting the boiler

A. Air temp after air heater could be anywhere form 350 to 500 Deg F. This depends on economizer size and air heater type. Flue gas temp after air heater would be 320 to 390 Deg F.

Q. In addition, what kind of boiler to use and the efficiency

A. I'm not sure what type boiler to use for an example but I would put the efficiency at 86 to 88%.

Q. Also, what would be the particle size?

A. Are you interested in pulverized coal particle size or in fly ash particle size. For pulverized coal the particle size would be approximately 70% of the coal passing through a 200 mesh strainer (74 microns or less).

You may want to contact a local utility and use them as a test case.
