Help. I am having trouble determining the correct size oil boiler to install. I am replacing an 47 year old oversized boiler, not due to problems but mainly want to save $$. My house is 2,000sf, Heat loss is supposedly 50,000btu, I have 118ft of basebord. My indirect is a 40gallon Weil Mclean, there is 2 adults and 3 children in the house.
I want to go with sizing to the heat loss but I am concerned about the hot water. I have been looking at Burnham MPO84 or 115, or Buderus g115ws/3 section.
I have been told a few different things by contractors, it seems that they want to oversize the boiler. Another recommedation by one of the manufactures was to use the smaller 74,000 btu boiler and use a mixing valve on the indirect. Safest way would be to go with a bigger boiler but it seems that would be counterproductive. Any recommedations are appreciated.
