Thanks for your reply. I understand what you're saying (though that table you referenced is bit difficult for me to comprehend).

I purchased a Gorton #5 and tried it, but it spit water just the same. I'm thinking of trying the next step up, or even possibly going all the way up to a 'C'. Their website describes the later as being good for "where a large amount of air must be vented", and these 12-fin radiators sure do have a lot of air in them.

Further information gathered recently: I swapped one of the 12-fin radiators for a 5-fin, and sure enough, there have been no symptoms of rattling or water-spitting. This all but convinces me that the problem is with the radiator/vent, and not within the system or distance from the boiler.
