I normally try to stay away from brand names but the Burnham Megasteam is the most efficient steam boiler on the market as it has a 3 pass flue design.They are the only steam boiler with a 5 year corrosion warranty.
Size the new boiler off the existing radiation.
Make sure the basement pipes are all insulated and the vents are all working including the main line steam vents at the end of the steam mains.
