As a steam heating system should lose almost no water, returning it all to the boiler, most steam systems are hand fed without auto feed. An auto feed is more likely in a commercial building where less diligent maintenance is probable, so some losses are probable.

Leaving the pressure reducing valve at the factory setting somewhere around 15 psig is usual as a one-pipe steam system runs around 1 psig.
