The question regards a boiler for a 50 unit apartment building (building built 1929). Boiler provides steam heat (riser pipes/steam radiators) and hot water to all the units. There's a problem with hot water supply to the apartments: it used to be too hot and was measured scalding hot at unit sinks. Adjustments were made and now the problem is the water is often luke warm, even when allowed to run for a long time. Building Superintendent says from the boiler, there's a hot water pipe and cold water pipe and where they meet - he's not certain of the term -he calls it a 'coil' , the hot & cold are supposed to mix together to provide the correct hot water temperature. He says that the 'coil' is defective so the water isn't reliably mixed to the right temperature.
What is the device called that mixes the water to provide the accurate hot water temps?
