I wouldn't convert to hot water unless you plan on ripping out the entire system and installing everything new. Too many things can go wrong if you try to re-use existing piping and radiators.

Assuming a calculated heat loss means nothing unless you actually do the heat loss. Anything less is bogus.

You need to have a pro actually come to your house. Go to www.heatinghelp.com, click on Find a Contractor and follow the directions.


: The quick and easy way to size the boiler is to pick the boiler that has just over the calculated radiation using the IBR rating numbers. The IBR rating numbers include piping and pickup allowances. It would probably be the EG 55.

: A calculated heat loss would probably be less than 75,000 btuh.

: Consider this an opportunity to convert to hot water, as the btuh requirements would be about half the fuel use compared to steam. The next years will see a further rise in fuel costs forcing more careful use of fuels.
