The boilers should not vary that much in price. The important fact is proper sizing. Did all sales guys measure the radiation in the home? If not they did not do their job. That is the only way to properly size a steam boiler. Oversizing the boiler means you will pay more up front for a larger boiler and pay more for fuel each month.
Are they replacing the vents and making sure all the steam piping in the basement is important. Is this an oil or gas boiler? If this is gas the Burnham Independence steam boiler has been very good to them for many years.
