Our weil-mclain boiler stopped working a few days ago (no hot water was coming through the faucets) and when I checked the boiler i found that a drip from a leaky bleed valve was falling directly on what i believe is the ignitor. i caught the drips in a bucket for the night and allowed the ignitor to dry. went down the next morning and the unit fired up when i flipped the service switch on, which it had not down the previous day.
anyhow, when it fired up smoke began pouring out of the front window (the hole in the front where you can view the combustion chamber.) tried it again after a few minutes and it did the same thing.
so my question is; is this most likely a matter of cleaning the exhaust ducting? (hasnt been cleaned in two years)
also, is this something I can do myself? i cant find any information on how to do it online.
thanks very much
