: If I am going to attach an indirect domestic water heater to a new modulating boiler (yet to be purchased), do I need to make sure to purchase a larger boiler than would be needed without the attached, indirect water heater?

Remember that with a sufficient indirect tank, water use for an average family is about 80 gallons a day which would be heated in 1/2 hour with a boiler. It is very rare, but two weeks a year when a boiler has to run the whole hour when sized EXACTLY to the heat load calculation.

So, as such boilers are usually oversized for the house heat need to begin with, you don't need to oversize the boiler more.
