: I just had a new Weil McLain EG40 gas fired steam boiler installed. I live on Long Island, NY. I am confused about turning off the pilot during the summer. I have heard that I don't need to have it on, and the installer said I should keep it on all year. Which is the best way to maintain my boiler.

By leaving the pilot burning keeps the under-carrage of boiler dry,and will pro-long the life of the boiler.
