: I have a Peerless oil-fired furnace with Beckett burner. On shut down it lets out a loud roar. One opinion I received was that this is caused by oil leaking past the pump and nozzle and flaring up before the oil flow can be completely shut off. Before I give the go ahead for the proposed fix I'd like to confirm the diagnosis, possible causes and likely fix.

: Thanks very much for your help.

Sorry, for the empty post, your diagnosis is fine. Check out a new Honeywell R71B burner control with post purge.
