That would 'thin' the gas at the higher temperature if it successfully heated a large amount of gas in the pipe. It won't cause an explosion, as that requires oxygen to make it combust; but it might affect combustion in the appliance and could heat the gas controls on the way through. I'd change it just out of respect for caution.
