It is a Gas fired non reciculating pump American Standard. I really can't take the sides off as they seem to be very integral to the unit. It has the old fasion draft vent on the back of the boiler duct that appears to have been attached tot the coal entry. It is partially open. Should I close it. Obviously that air is going up the stack.
: You don't know what the exchanger on the exhaust vent will do to the draft. It is a problem that can be completely yours as the only engineer.
: We don't even know what kind of boiler fuel it is or what design type to make a guess. As it is 80 years old, it has been wasting 1/3rd its heat for four generations in comparison with a new one.
: If you want to heat the basement with no redesign, take insulation off the boiler so the heat from the wall of the boiler heats the room.
