: Is there a way of verifying whether they are the problem before I replace them?

+++ If the main vent gets warm faster than the radiators, they are OK. If the vent never gets warm, it should be replaced. You should hear air leaving the main vent when the burner fires up for a while.

The burner will fire for up to half an hour. Is that normal?

+++ Yes; the more clogged the main vent is, the faster the burner will shut off, before the radiators are all warm.
