It is a nice luxury. The original purpose of a dropped header was for low basements. We have determined through the yars the more piping and fittings the steam passes through around the boiler the dryer the steam.

Dryer steam moves faster and heats better. When we have moisture in the steam the moisture steals latent heat from the steam and the steam collapses back into water quicker. We have to create more steam to continue to heat. It takes 970 btu's to convert 212f water to 212f steam which is more than 5 times the energy it takes to heat water from 32f to 212f. The longer we can keep the steam in a steam state the better it is for the boiler, system and our wallets.
This is the same reason we always insulate all the steam piping in the basement including near boiler piping.
