I've got one of these dinosaurs as well, but it was manufactured in 1979 (house was built in 1981). In any case, I'm in the process of getting estimates for replacement. Am I understanding you correctly when you say these boilers were %70 efficient? Also given the age of my system isn't it likely that this efficiency has declined somewhat, to perhaps %60 or %65? I'm going to get an efficiency test done because the lower the number, the more money I will be able to recoup via state grant money when I put an %85+ boiler in. Anyway, your %30 wasted value is the only efficiency number I can find on the internet for this boiler and it serves it's purpose, which is to give me a ballpark number to start with.
