Safety pressure valve on old redflash boiler

I'm tinkering with my ancient Am. Standard red flash #1 boiler. I'll be replacing the temp-pressure gauge and possibly the aquastat. I don't know if the existing safety pressure valve on top the unit works well and I think I'll sleep better if I replaced it with a new one. The modern ones seem to have inlet/outlet ports where the old one doesn't have any outlet ports. My understanding is it releases pressure from the system in an emergency when the pressure exceeds safe operating levels. Do these new ones (looking at safety pressure valves at Graingers.com) function the same even with these inlet & outlet holes. Are there safety valves available with only inlet for attatchment to unit like the old ones? If so where are they? Thankyou.
