All I can say is that the contractors measured the width of each of the 10 radiator's in my two story house(basement exclududed). They then sent proposals with their recommendations. According to two of the contractors, the EG-45(150,000BTU/hr) is just about equal to the size oil boiler I have now. The EG-40 is rated at 125,000BTU/hr.

My neighbor used the contractor with the EG-40 recommendation in a house very similar to mine. Actually she went with a Thermoflo(GSA-125SP) which is suppose to be identical to the Weil-Mclean. I have the specs of each boiler and brand in front of me but I really can't provide any additional info. except to say that these contractor recommendations are probably based on square foot of steam.

Can there be any real disadvantage going with the 45 even thought the 40 may be sufficient?
