Looking for help.I have a 1280 sq. ft. bungalow located in Calgary Alberta Canada. Main floor has a natural gas furnace that needs replacing. Basement is heated with radiant baseboard heaters. At some point the previous owner took out the boiler and replaced it with a 40 gallon Natural Gas water heater to feed the basement baseboard heaters. This works but I think it must be very inefficient and may not pass code requirements.I also have a 40 gallon hot water tank for domestic hot water.I want to know if it makes sense to replace the furnace with a fan coil air handling unit and replace both the hot water tanks and have one heat source being a new boiler? What are the pros and cons of Cast Iron verses copper tube boilers.
The two makes I have been looking at is the Burnham Revolution cast iron and the Teledyne Larrs Mighty Therm 2 copper tube.Any suggestions? Does this make sense from a mechanical viewpoint?
