That was a normal occurance. The rust that had been produced in the ferrous metals in the system is probably all that will be made now that the oxygen in the water from the many openings of the system for repiping and refilling has gone into the rust.

Keeping no leaks in the system and no more fills will prevent further rust. With the cold water fill closed off, there will be no more oxygen entering with fresh water and the pressure gauge shouldn't drop below the cold fill pressure.
