Did the house have a hot water system before the forced air? If so, is the distribution (piping) still intact, as well as the emitters (baseboard, radiators)? How do you get your DHW?

If not, replacing a FHA furnace will be much cheaper than installing a boiler and hot water heating system from scratch (piping, pumps, emitters, etc).

AFA forced air systems, a high efficiency (condensing, variable speed, etc)furnace is the way to go, although if you are used to hot water or steam heat you may not like the difference in your perceived comfort.
