I did not mean that I would be looking for a circa 79 unit.. I would be interested in a new replacement or to put in a new coil. But is it really worth the effort to install the coil? The boiler is in a crawlspace. In regards to the sizzling.. I dont mean the sound of expanding/contracting metal. It sounded like water dripping and boiling off inside- (I really really hope this isnt the case)

It is about 20 degF outside, humid and snowing...these conditions could exagerrate the steam at the stack... but there was also some in the cleanout at the bottom of the chimney.

The boiler has not been run much at all for a year.. only very occaisionally. It has been completely cold for about 3 weeks.

I dont know if the previous owner of my house removed the gauge glass for whatever reason...but I dont have any level indication!

Think she'll make it through the winter? We mostly heat with wood but its our backup.

Are new crown boilers viable replacements for this old one? Or should I choose something else.. hot water baseboard. Thanks again..
