You want to get the writing in order. You won't get anyone to ship a 1979 Crown boiler, so you probably need to talk to a local supplier for a new one that they carry.

Running a boiler for 20 minutes can have the metal hot enough to sizzle for a while; so no particular analysis follows from that.

Steam going up the stack is a bad sign. Filling the boiler over the top of the gauge glass to observe for leaks is one way to find a leak.

It is possible to replace a heating coil or a boiler.
