So after discussing this with some contractors, more are still coming, I have gotten the usual response. We can do what you want. This is useless as cost is a factor and so I need estimates for various jobs.

The plumbers claim pex can't make the tight turn through the T in the steam lines.

Can't get upstairs without ripping into some walls and then the asbestos needs to come out. They recommend baseboard on all the outer walls if switching to water. I don't want baseboard as I like the space layout of the radiators

Can't use the old radiators, too labor intensive, not designed for 21st century hot water, plug might be stuck, radiator might leak, crack, etc.

So far cost wise, oilThe contractors sure make the homeowners job tough. Any useful tips to get these guys on board?
