: Our house came with a 1987 HE Series 3 boiler. It's well kept in that the interior is very clean and we have it serviced regularly. Recently, it started having a problem: The heating element heats, but once in a while the gas does not ignite. So, I end up with cold water circulating. The local repair guy said that my Weil-McLain has "problems" and it should be replaced.

: Two questions from the experts:
: 1) Is Weil-McLain or my specific boiler a known problem boiler?
: 2) Is the right thing to do to replace it? That seems extreme. If the combustion portion had a defect you'd think a newer replacement part would be available.

: I know zero about boilers. Any info you can provide is greatly appreciated.

: Thanks
: Scott

Let me add it's an 1987 HE-5 Series 3...forgot the 5 the first time.
