My old American Cast Iron oil boiler intermittingly goes way beyond its set high limit. This happened last winter a few times also. The service man removed the very old style controls that independantly set the low limit and the high and installed a more modern all in one control. He set the low to 160 and the high to 180. He also changed the well because it was in such bad shape. It worked perfectly for the remainder of the season and I thought the problem was solved. I turned the boiler back on in early Oct and it seemed to be running fine until yesterday. I arrived home and the house was extremely warm. The house therm was set at 62 and the house was at 74. Radiators hot! Went to the basement, temp was at 210. Serviceman says new controls were all he could do, maybe lots of crud in the boiler effecting the temp control. Highly recomends new boiler asap, says very unsafe. Does anyone recommend doing anything else before taking this boiler out and replacing. Many thanks for any help with this matter. Thanks Tom
